Pre-start: a French chateau-style self-build

CB Homes was approached by a couple who wanted to build a very large home for their family. They had already bought a farmhouse on a big plot of land, in order to build a grand extension.

They had gained planning permission and embarked on an ambitious extension project but unfortunately, their builders were unable to complete the project.

Setting the stage: modern replacement dwelling reaches second fix

8th November 2023

Our replacement dwelling in Timperley is now at the second fix stage. The stunning balcony leading off the master bedroom, with views over the back garden, will be installed shortly.

When the house is finished, this will be a space for relaxation, with low maintenance container planting and perhaps a couple of recliners so the owners can enjoy relaxing in the evening sunshine.

Eight years ago, our clients, Dharmista and Jayme, purchased a bungalow in Timperley, with a plan to extend it to create a much bigger home. It soon became clear that there were significant problems, not only with the roof but also with damp throughout the property.

The previous owner had tried various remedial works to try and solve the damp problems but without success. Our clients decided that the best option for them would be to demolish the existing property and embark on a self-build project.

The first fix of this stunning replacement dwelling project is now finished. All the cabling and pipework for the electrics, plumbing and heating systems have been installed and the floor screeds are done so the floors are ready to be tiled.

The planning challenges of a replacement dwelling

Last year, we were approached by a self-build client for assistance at the planning stage of their project, which was for a replacement dwelling on a plot of land currently occupied by an old farmhouse and various ancillary buildings.

Our architect met with the client and took a design brief for a two storey Georgian countryside property with simple authentic period detailing.
